Day 1 – Creating a New SharePoint Site

In today’s challenge, you’ll create a new SharePoint site to use throughout the challenge while also exploring the various site templates available in SharePoint. You’ll learn how to select the right site template based on the specific solution you’re building, setting a strong foundation for your SharePoint journey.

Getting Started

Before diving into creating your SharePoint site, it’s important to understand the two primary types of sites you can choose from:

• Team Sites: These are designed for collaboration within a group. They’re ideal for managing projects, sharing documents, and facilitating teamwork.
• Communication Sites: These are meant for broadcasting information to a larger audience. They work well for sharing news, reports, or resources with a wide group of people.

For this challenge, we’ll focus on creating a Team Site to support a marketing department’s document management needs.

Basic Instructions to Create a Site

1. Navigate to your SharePoint homepage and click Create Site.
2. Select Team Site and provide a site name, description, and any relevant group permissions.
3. Customise your site settings, such as privacy options (public or private) and whether to connect it to an existing Microsoft 365 group.
4. Click Finish to create your site.

• Take some time to explore the various templates available within Microsoft SharePoint, such as Project Management or Document Center templates. These templates provide a starting point and can save you time when setting up your site.
